Job summary

Spencer Ogden is assisting a growing infrastructure and environmental consulting firm in Montana to hire a Professional Land Surveyor / Project Manager. The role sits between office and field, based in Butte, Helena, or Bozeman, and involves leading survey projects across roads, utilities and land development.

The ideal candidate will hold a Montana PLS license or be able to obtain it, have 5+ years of project management experience, and be proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble software.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience managing survey projects.
• Montana PLS license or ability to obtain.
• Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering or related.
• Strong understanding of surveying principles.
• Experience with GPS, robotic total stations and data collectors.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience with Trimble Business Center or similar software.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Ability to lead and mentor field crews and office staff.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Managing land surveying projects from initiation through completion.
• Conducting boundary, topographic and construction staking surveys.
• Leading both field and office survey teams.
• Providing technical guidance, QA/QC and mentorship.
• Using GPS, total stations, levels and modern surveying technology.
• Preparing and maintaining field notes, sketches, survey reports, maps and plans.
• Analyzing survey data to determine boundaries, elevations, contours and land features.
• Reviewing legal records, survey records and land titles.
• Preparing legal descriptions and survey documentation.
• Coordinating with engineers, contractors and project teams.
• Managing project schedules, budgets and deliverables.
• Communicating directly with clients and resolving survey-related issues.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable surveying, regulatory and safety standards.
