Position Overview
Monitor Tech is responsible for the continuous monitoring, interpretation, communication, and documentation of cardiac rhythms and rhythm components.
Essential Functions
- Monitor and review patient information to determine baseline cardiac rhythm.
- Demonstrate competency in telemetry lead placement for accurate cardiac rhythm analysis.
- Analyze cardiac rhythms and record measurements, calculations, and interpretations every 6 hours and as needed, following established protocols.
- Notify Registered Nurse of any cardiac rhythm or rhythm component changes and follow escalation protocols.
- Notify Registered Nurse if a patient is off monitor and follow escalation protocols.
- Maintain knowledge of the technical operation of the central monitoring station.
- Check and adjust high and low alarm settings on telemetry monitors each shift.
- Provide shift reports with current patient information.
- Coordinate with nursing staff to initiate and discontinue telemetry monitoring.
- Troubleshoot routine technical problems with the central monitoring system and initiate repairs as necessary.
- Enhance knowledge of cardiac rhythm analysis and interpretation.
- Protect patient confidentiality and sensitive data at all times.
- Maintain punctual attendance in accordance with hospital policies and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Safeguard electronic equipment from liquids and damage.
- Create a conducive environment for telemetry monitoring, minimizing noise and foot traffic.
- Respond promptly and courteously to phone inquiries.
- Support new ideas, promote positive change, and remain calm during stressful situations.
- Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory education requirements.
- Demonstrate professionalism and organizational commitment.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Use time and resources efficiently.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Training
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior related experience with ECG competency assessment and passing a rhythm test with at least 84% grade, or completion of Orlando Health’s basic ECG course within 60 days if inexperienced.
Licensure/Certification
- BLS/Health Care Provider certification required.
