Job summary

HCA Florida Putnam Hospital in Palatka, FL seeks a Monitor Tech to perform EKG monitoring, rhythm analysis, and maintenance of patient records. You will support nursing staff, respond to alarms, and help ensure safe, quiet patient-centered care in a busy unit.

The role requires completion of an EKG course, current BLS certification, and at least 1 year of relevant experience; strong communication and PC skills are essential. Palatka location offers community-focused healthcare services.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • Successful completion of an EKG course and exam.
  • Current BLS required on all nursing clinical units; BLS/BCLS issued by AHA or Red Cross.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately runs, documents and analyzes rhythm strips on all patients according to unit standards.
  • Document rhythm changes and notify RN/Charge RN/LPN as appropriate; ensure hand-off at shift change.
  • Respond to monitor alarms and inform RN/Charge RN/LPN of changes in rhythm or lead issues.
  • Troubleshoot patient monitoring equipment and notify biomedical engineering of unresolved issues.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Under general supervision and according to established hospital and nursing department policies and procedures, performs a variety of duties including EKG monitoring and interpretation, compiling, transcribing, preparing and maintaining records in a specific nursing area or unit. Provides information and communication services to visitors and staff. Assists nursing staff in maintaining efficient operations on the unit.

Essential Functions
  • Accurately runs, documents and analyzes rhythm strips on all patients according to unit standards.
  • Document rhythm changes and places strip in chart notifying RN/Charge RN/LPN as appropriate. Ensures hand-off at change of shift and previous breaks.
  • Responds immediately to all monitor alarms. Ensures RN/Charge RN/LPN is notified of any changes in patient rhythm, rate, signal interference, lead off, and need for assessment of patient.
  • Trouble shoot patient monitoring equipment and notifies biomedical engineering promptly of any unresolved equipment issues.
  • Contributes to a culture of patient centered care by ensuring a quiet healing environment.
What qualifications you will need
  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent required
  • Successful completion of an EKG course and exam
  • Current BLS required on all nursing clinical units; BLS/BCLS issued by AHA or American Red Cross required
  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skills, Knowledge of indications and adverse reactions of cardiac IV medications
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • 1 Year experience
