Job summary

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Bronson Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory seeks a Biological Scientist III to perform molecular tests (PCR/qPCR) on animal, environmental, and clinical samples. You will process results and maintain records in the LIMS, working in BSL-2/BSL-3 facilities with respirator use.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biological, physical, natural, or agricultural sciences with 2 years of related professional experience (or equivalent master's/doctorate).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work with respirators and in biosafety level 2 and 3 containment facilities.
• Proficiency with molecular analytical techniques including PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and gel electrophoresis.
• Competence in laboratory information management systems and data entry.
• Ability to pass pulmonary function test and regular respirator fit-testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform molecular diagnostic tests including PCR and qPCR on animal, environmental, and clinical samples.
• Process test results and maintain accurate records in the Laboratory Information Management System.
• Work in biosafety level 2 and 3 facilities with respirator use and containment protocols.
• Collaborate with the Section Head to ensure adherence to testing procedures.
