Job summary

Amentum is actively seeking candidates for an Associate Scientist 1 position in Jacksonville, FL. The role involves handling samples for QA/QC, performing DNA extraction and real-time PCR to identify pathogens, and working in a laboratory setting that may include BSL-2/BSL-3 environments with appropriate PPE.

The candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or related fields and have at least one year of bench experience; BSL-3 experience is desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or related course work in biological sciences.
• At least one (1) year of laboratory bench experience outside of an academic environment, utilizing PCR, aseptic techniques, and biological assays.
• Biological Safety Level (BSL)-3 experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Handle, receipt, and processing of daily operational, QA, verification and proficiency test samples.
• Perform DNA extraction and real-time PCR to identify and characterize pathogens, in BSL-2/BSL-3 settings.
• Maintain chain-of-custody (CoC) and document results.
• Prepare reagents and samples with GLP familiarity.
• Conduct routine equipment calibration and cleaning.
• Restock and inventory supplies across multiple lab areas.
• Support BioWatch Program logistics and QA/QC testing of reagents.
• Ensure proper disposal of biohazardous waste.
