Job summary

The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA, seeks a Staff Research Associate to provide technical support for biomedical studies. You will assist with molecular biology, protein analysis, cell culture, and specimen processing under supervision, while maintaining data records and adhering to SOPs.

Required is a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least one year of lab experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of research laboratory experience.
• Foundational knowledge of molecular biology principles and laboratory techniques.
• Experience performing molecular and/or protein-based assays.
• Experience with laboratory documentation and data entry.
• Experience handling biological samples in a lab environment.
• Ability to follow detailed lab protocols and SOPs.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and with guidance when needed.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior staff with molecular biology, protein, and cellular assays per protocols.
• Prepare samples, reagents, and materials for experiments.
• Perform routine molecular biology procedures (PCR, nucleic acid prep).
• Support immunostaining and protein-based assays.
• Maintain and expand mammalian cell cultures per lab standards.
• Receive, process, label, and track human samples per procedures.
• Maintain accurate lab records and data entry.
• Organize and verify research data for reports and publications.
• Assist with NGS workflows and related procedures as assigned.
• Operate lab equipment and report issues to senior staff.
• Monitor inventory and assist with ordering supplies.
• Follow biosafety procedures and institutional policies.
• Participate in meetings and training; maintain a clean lab.
