Job summary

Amcor in Saint Helens, OR is hiring for a packaging/packer-handler role on a 12-hour shift. You will ensure safety and operate packaging lines, support QA, and coordinate with maintenance and supervision to meet production goals.

The role requires active safety engagement, ability to adjust to line stoppages, and flexibility to perform multiple duties on the production floor. Starting pay is $21 per hour with a progression to $22 after 90 days, plus benefits.

Qualifications

  • Accountability for safety of all employees and clear safety communications.
  • Investigates line/equipment stoppages due to perceived safety risk.
  • Follows policies and laws in daily duties.
  • Participates in risk assessments and corrective actions to reduce EH&S risks.
  • Maintains product quality in coordination with QA.

Responsibilities

  • Assess safety for team and communicate safe work expectations.
  • Support investigation of stoppages due to safety concerns.
  • Operate and monitor packaging line per schedule and specs.
  • Assist in staffing plans to ensure machine coverage.
  • Set production goals with supervisor and maintain equipment performance.
  • Notify maintenance of equipment issues and coordinate fixes.
  • Handle packing steps including inspections, labeling, and documentation.
  • Maintain production supplies (bags, gaskets, labels, etc.).
  • Lead and train teammates; escalate concerns to shift supervisor.

Job Description



  • Accountable for the safety of all employees for whom they are responsible through active engagement in safety activities and provides clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations.

  • Supports and investigates situations in which line/equipment stoppage occurs due to perceived, imminent safety risk.

  • Completes responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures, and applicable laws

  • Actively involved in risk assessment activities for their area of responsibility by driving prioritized corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks.

  • Reviews product quality communicating with Quality Assurance.

  • Upon consultation with Quality Assurance and Production Manager or Supervisor, determines when product needs to be scrapped or placed on hold for higher level review/action.

  • With direction from Supervisor, assists in preparing staffing plans to ensure adequate coverage on all machines for scheduled production.

  • Works with Supervisor to set production goals.

  • Ensures that equipment runs according to the instructions/specifications on the production schedule, product boards, and process specifications. (i.e. correct resin, additives, packaging, line speed, temperature)

  • Notifies Maintenance of any equipment related issues.

  • Communicates with Supervisor to resolve problems.

  • Part handling requirements include inspections, hot stamping, handle installation, gasket installation, and packing per instructions. Inspection of product, verification of pull-apart, stacking product onto tray packs, labeling and documentation of finished product and transfer from presses to staging for shrink wrap.

  • Responsible for maintaining production supplies such as bags, gaskets, handles, labels, tray packs, and TPI’s.

  • Exhibit leadership skills, develop and apply training skills, use problem-solving abilities to handle situations that may arise in the workplace, motivate and communicate with Packer Handlers and Machines Operators, alert Mold Techs and Shift Supervisor of safety, quality, machine, raw material, packaging, documentation or production concerns.

  • Will be able to perform all functions of the Packer Handler and Machines Operators positions and perform those roles as needed to meet production requirements

  • Any other tasks as assigned.


Starting Pay: $21.00 per hour


Schedule



  • 12-hour shifts

  • 2 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off

  • Paid lunch breaks


Pay Progression



  • Starting pay of $21.00 per hour.

  • Increase to $22.00 per hour after 90 days with a successful performance evaluation.
