Job summary

City of New York seeks painters to join the Healthy Homes OMAR program for addressing mold and leak repairs citywide. Temporary staff will work across boroughs on backlogged work orders, focusing on faster response times and quality living conditions for residents.

Assignments cover both interior and exterior painting using mold-resistant paint, with supervision and a path toward potential extension depending on program needs and civil service rules.

Qualifications

• Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter within the last fifteen years, or at least three years plus sufficient apprentice painter experience to total five years of acceptable experience.

Responsibilities

• Paint exterior and interior surfaces with mold-resistant paint.
• Visually inspect surfaces before painting and report mold, moisture damage, or conditions needing evaluation.
• Clean small areas of mold or mildew using approved products and safety procedures.
• Apply mold-resistant paint for full coverage, especially in high humidity areas.
• Prepare and clean the work area.
• Perform pre-painting activities like cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, and masking as required.
• Maintain inventory of paint and supplies per management instructions.
• Follow storage and disposal laws and codes.
• Prepare designated surfaces for painting according to mold-cleanup procedures and refer to appropriate personnel for specialized remediation.
