Job summary

A tooling/ machinist position in Detroit is seeking a capable individual to produce tools and dies, using blueprints and precision hand tools. The role involves planning production sequences, fitting components, and delivering samples per customer specifications.

The candidate should be mechanically inclined with strong math and blueprint reading skills, able to work independently, handle concentration-heavy tasks, and communicate with programmers on a daily basis.

Qualifications

• Familiar with machining properties, such as hardness and heat tolerance of common metals/alloys.
• Mechanically inclined with the ability to work independently.
• Able to concentrate and perform physical tasks.
• Able to organize work and meet deadlines.
• Broad knowledge of machining operations, mathematics, and blueprint reading.
• Strong communication skills to convey information clearly (oral and written).
• Computer knowledge to retrieve data for the mold making process.

Responsibilities

• Plan the sequence of operations from blueprints or instructions to manufacture tools or dies.
• Use hand tools for fitting and assembling gauges and other equipment.
• Complete a die to a realistic promise date and produce samples to customer specifications.
• Create proto-type molds from various materials (aluminum, bronze, etc.).
• Communicate daily with programmers for project completion.
• Promote guest relations; respond to needs of others; provide courteous, quick assistance; maintain privacy and confidentiality.
