Metro Elevator NW, Inc. is seeking an entry-level Modernization Field Coordinator in Tukwila, WA for a full-time in-office role with early start hours. You will own the field survey process, gather precise measurements, and assemble survey packages for equipment vendors while coordinating permit applications with AHJs.

Ideal candidates will have a related degree, be detail-obsessed, and comfortable between fieldwork and desk documentation, with growth toward a Modernization Superintendent role.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site field surveys of hoistways, machine rooms, pits, overheads, entrances, and related equipment areas; record accurate dimensions, conditions, and photos
• Compile survey data into clean, standardized documents for submission to equipment vendors
• Prepare, organize, and submit vendor submittal packages; track review status and manage revisions/resubmittals
• Prepare and submit all permit applications to the applicable AHJ; track approvals, respond to plan review comments, and maintain permit documentation
• Coordinate with vendors, engineers, project managers, and field crews to resolve discrepancies between field conditions and design documents
• Maintain organized project files (digital and physical) for every job in the modernization pipeline
• Flag field conditions that may affect scope, cost, or code compliance
• Learn applicable code requirements (e.g., ASME A17.1, local elevator codes) as they relate to surveys and permitting
• Support senior modernization staff on job walks and pre-construction planning as needed

Tukwila, WA - This is an in-office role from 6:00AM - 3:00PM.

Job Summary

The Modernization Field Coordinator is an entry-level role responsible for the full lifecycle of pre-construction documentation on elevator/escalator modernization projects - from field surveys through vendor submittals and AHJ permitting. This person will be the sole owner of gathering accurate field measurements (hoistways, machine rooms, entrance frames, pits, overheads, etc.), translating that data into clear survey packages for equipment vendors, assembling and tracking submittal packages for review, and managing all permit applications and coordination with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). This is a high-visibility, high-growth role designed for a recent graduate who is detail-obsessed, technically curious, and eager to build a long-term career path toward a Modernization Superintendent position. Strong candidates will be comfortable in the field with a tape measure and laser, and equally comfortable at a desk assembling precise documentation.

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or related field (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
• 0-2 years of relevant experience; internships or co-ops in construction, MEP, or vertical transportation a plus but not required
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational habits
• Ability to read and interpret architectural/mechanical/electrical drawings
• Comfortable taking precise field measurements using tape measures, laser distance meters, and similar tools
• Strong written communication skills for preparing clear, professional submittal and survey documents
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Excel; CAD or Bluebeam experience a plus
• Willingness to travel locally between job sites regularly
• Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently
• Physical ability to access elevator pits, machine rooms, and hoistways, including climbing ladders and working in confined spaces
