Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a Personal Care Assistant to provide mobility support and assist the department head throughout the workday, including setting up equipment and helping with meals and hydration.

You will escort the department head across campus, handle related travel support, and perform other duties with integrity. The role requires a High School Diploma, 1–3 years of experience, and dependable transportation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1‑3 years’ experience.
• Experience providing personal care or mobility assistance (professionally or as a caregiver).
• Physically able to assist and provide physical support safely.
• Reliable and punctual, with dependable transportation.
• Basic understanding of body mechanics and safe lifting/transfer techniques.
• Training from an occupational or physical therapist preferred.
• A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on assistance with mobility.
• Set up and adjust mobility equipment for safe use.
• Assist with obtaining meals and hydration.
• Operates standard office equipment and displays computer literacy.
• Maintains a high level of integrity and discretion.
• Flexible and adaptable to principal’s changing needs day to day.
• Displays good communication and customer service skills, delivering a high standard of support and assistance to guests, faculty, staff, and students.
• Other duties as assigned.
