Job summary

Allegheny Intermediate Unit is seeking a Personal Care Assistant to support a single student in a Pittsburgh-area setting. Duties include assisting with daily living activities, self-sufficiency training, and ensuring the student’s participation in the classroom under supervision.

The role involves regular attendance and adherence to ESS and district policies. Requires appropriate clearances and educational credentials; position offered at a daily rate of $119–$140.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have or obtain 48 college credits or Para Ed. Certification within 1 year of hire.
• Clearances: State Police, Child Abuse, FBI fingerprinting are required.
• Complete School Health Form: Physical and TB test.
• Submit PA Form 6004 and Mandated Reporter training.
• CPR, CPI and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with self-sufficiency training and maintenance of skills for a child with physical disabilities.
• Assume duties of a personal care nature to enable the child to participate fully in the least restrictive environment.
• Encourage, support, and educate the student in activities of daily living for comfort, well-being, and integrity.
• Help manage and maintain the student’s environment to meet physical and psychological needs.
• Monitor health problems and psycho-social adjustment related to medical conditions.
• Assist in arranging classroom environment to meet student needs.
• Attend trainings, in-services, and meetings as requested.
• Demonstrate cooperation and flexibility with related duties as assigned by ESS and the school district.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

48 college credits or Para Ed. Certification OR becoming Para Ed. Certified within one year of hire

Pennsylvania State Police Clearance for employment

Child Abuse Clearance for employment

FBI Fingerprinting

School Health Form: Physical and Tuberculosis Test

Pennsylvania Department of Education Form 6004: Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification

Act 126/Mandated Reporter training

CPR, CPI, and First Aid Certified preferred
