Eight Sleep, Inc. is seeking a hungry new graduate to join our mobile team and own real work from day one. You’ll build and ship features for iOS and Android apps, shipping production code used by members in over 30 countries.

You’ll gain breadth by working across platforms, then specialize in the area where you can have the most impact. A strong portfolio, SwiftUI or Kotlin, and English fluency are essential, with EU work permit and Milan work location.

Qualifications

• Built and shipped mobile apps (App Store / Play Store) or internship projects.
• Strong knowledge of SwiftUI or Jetpack Compose and willingness to learn the other.
• Demonstrated initiative via side projects, OSS, hackathons, or personal builds.
• English fluency.
• Experience using AI tools (Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) in development workflows.
• High bar for product quality and UI with attention to details.
• Fast learner who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Recent graduate within 12 months (or graduating soon) in CS/SE or related field.
• EU work permit and willingness to work from Milan.

Responsibilities

The Role

The Eight Sleep app is our primary point of interaction with members. It lets them control and configure their Pod, understand their sleep, and wake up stronger. You’ll join our mobile team and own real work from day one. You won’t be shadowing. You’ll be shipping production code used by members in over 30 countries.

You’ll work across both iOS and Android, building a broad understanding of our mobile platform, and then specialize in the one where you can have the most impact. We’re looking for a hungry, proactive new graduate at the start of their career who treats engineering like a craft. The ideal candidate has already built and shipped mobile projects through internships, side projects, hackathons, or apps on the App Store or Play Store, has a high bar for product quality and beautiful UI, and thrives in a fast-paced startup environment. You’ll work side by side with some of the best engineers in Silicon Valley and learn from them every day.

How you’ll contribute

• Build and ship features across our iOS and Android apps, from first prototype to production, then go deep on the platform you specialize in

• Write clean, tested production code and take part in code reviews from your first weeks

• Keep our apps fast, stable, and polished, from app performance to pixel-perfect UI

• Work with firmware, ML, and hardware teams to bring new Pod features to life, from Bluetooth connectivity to sleep insights

• Use AI tools to move faster: prototype quickly, automate the boring parts, and help build the AI-powered features in our app

• Own problems, not just tickets: dig into data, find the root cause, and follow through until the fix is live

What you need to succeed

• You’ve built and shipped mobile projects: a published App Store or Play Store app, a polished portfolio project, or meaningful internship work

• Solid fundamentals in Swift (SwiftUI) or Kotlin (Jetpack Compose), and the curiosity to learn the other

• Evidence of initiative: side projects, open-source contributions, hackathon wins, or anything you built because you couldn’t not build it

• English fluency

• Comfort using AI in your engineering workflow: you use tools like Claude, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot to write, debug, and ship code faster, and you know when to trust them and when not to

• A high bar for product quality and UI. You notice when an animation is 100ms off

• A fast learner who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and asks for responsibility, not permission

• Graduated in the last 12 months or graduating soon, with a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related engineering field

• Legal permit to work in the EU and willingness to work from Milan

Bonus points for

• You’re a builder: you’ve won hackathons, ship side projects for fun, or are active in student organizations (tech clubs, robotics teams, startup societies)

• An app live on the App Store or Play Store (include the link in your application form)

• Experience with both iOS and Android

• Familiarity with async/await, Combine, Coroutines, Flow, or architecture patterns like MVVM/MVI

• Projects involving hardware, Bluetooth peripherals, Apple Watch, widgets, or health-related apps

• Familiarity with CI/CD, testing frameworks, or modular codebases

• A passion for health, wellness, or consumer hardware products
