Job summary

Mass General Brigham's North Shore Medical Center is seeking a Phlebotomist to draw blood at patient nursing homes and homes across the North Shore. This 40-hour/week day shift runs 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday with every third weekend rotation.

Responsibilities include obtaining quality blood samples, ensuring proper patient identification and specimen handling, and complying with HIPAA and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and specimen handling.
• Strong written and oral communication, prioritization, time management.
• Excellent customer service, empathy, and respect for patient privacy.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, respectful of diverse backgrounds.
• 1+ year phlebotomy experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
• Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
• May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
• Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
• Works fluently with computer programs and systems, and complies with HIPAA regulations.
• Performs other test administration and specimen collection as assigned.
