Job summary

New York Common Pantry is seeking a Mobile Pantry Driver in the Bronx, NY. This full-time, on-site position loads and unloads a pantry box truck, transports items to mobile distribution sites, and assists with setting up and breaking down spaces for pantry events.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, a valid license, and experience driving box trucks or cargo vans. Flexibility for weekends/evenings is required to support programs.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive the agency-owned box truck to mobile pantry sites.
• Report truck maintenance needs to Supervisor immediately.
• Set up and pack distribution areas at mobile sites with staff.
• Transport deliveries to mobile sites following NYC food handling standards.
• Load/unload deliveries to stock pantry storage rooms.
• Prepare distribution spaces and coordinate room setup with staff.
• Design efficient delivery routes in collaboration with Supervisor.
• Assist with inventory and warehouse cleanliness as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Mobile Pantry Driver is responsible for ensuring all items needed for the mobile pantry are properly loaded/unloaded on the van, providing transportation to the mobile sites, and assisting in distribution while at the mobile site.

The Mobile Pantry Driver will report to the Warehouse & Mobile Operations Supervisor at 1285 Oak Point Ave, Bronx, NY 10474. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday: 7:00 AM - 2:30 PM; one-hour lunch. This is a Full-Time position, non-exempt.

Responsibilities:

Properly and safely drive the agency-owned box truck.

Ensure that maintenance of the truck is upheld at all times; any maintenance needs and/ or repairs must be reported to the Warehouse & Mobile Operations Supervisor immediately.

Work with Food Programs Associates to set up and pack up the distribution area at mobile sites.

Properly date and transport to mobile site locations according to NYC food handling standards.

Load and unload deliveries at permanent office space to ensure the office food storage room is adequately stocked with commodities.

Prepare the distribution space before the program begins, coordinating with partnership staff to set up the room for pantry distribution.

Design the most effective and efficient route in collaboration with the Warehouse & Mobile Operations Supervisor.

Participate in inventory management of food and program-related supplies as needed, ensuring all delivered items are properly stored.

Assist with warehouse cleanliness and organization as needed, including cleaning shared work areas and supporting commodities packing and preparation.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications :

A High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.

A valid license in the province or territory of intended employment and a clean driving record are required.

Commitment to helping the communities in need and NYCP’s work and mission.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required.

Experience driving a box truck, Sprinter 3500, or similarly extended cargo van is required.

Experience using hand trucks and pallet jacks is required.

Experience using a forklift is preferred.

Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as needed to support special events and program-related activities.

Meet deadlines in a timely manner despite traffic or route changes.

Solve problems that may arise on the job, such as traffic or route changes.

Certification in Food Safety by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is preferred.

Comfortable working with diverse populations.

Multitask and work in a highly trafficked area.

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Travel between multiple job locations.
