Job summary

Columbus Quarry LLC is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Diesel & Welding Technician to join our maintenance team in Georgia. You will diagnose, repair, and perform precision maintenance on heavy-duty diesel engines and mobile quarry assets, with a focus on preventive maintenance and Ground Engaging Tools.

The role requires welding, fabrication, hydraulic and electrical fault troubleshooting, and a safety-focused approach to keep equipment productive.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent in diesel tech or welding/fabrication.
  • 3+ years diagnosing and repairing heavy diesel trucks or mining/construction equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • Proficient in stick welding, dual-shield welding, oxy-fuel cutting, and carbon arc gouging.
  • Ability to read and implement technical manuals and weld symbols.

Responsibilities

  • Preventive maintenance and G.E.T. management on heavy equipment.
  • Welding, hardfacing, and repairs on buckets and attachments.
  • Service and overhaul heavy earthmoving machinery to preserve fleet readiness.
  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
  • Lead shop and pit safety practices and document work orders.
  • Document maintenance activities and learnings in record systems.
  • Other duties as requested.

Position Summary

Columbus Quarry LLC is seeking a skilled and safety-consciousHeavy Equipment Diesel & Welding Technician to join our premiergranite surface mining operation. In this role, you will leverageyour dual expertise in mechanical diagnostics and fabrication tooptimize our production equipment readiness. You will be responsiblefor diagnosing, repairing, and executing precision maintenance onheavy-duty diesel engines and mobile quarry assets (includingloaders, excavators, haul trucks, etc.). As a member of ourmaintenance team, you will drive preventive maintenance strategies,systematically manage Ground Engaging Tools (G.E.T.), and performwelding to maximize machinery longevity, minimize downtime, andsupport continuous production.

  • Preventive Maintenance & G.E.T. Management:Proactively monitor, evaluate, remove, and replace Ground EngagingTools (G.E.T.), including bucket teeth, adapters, cutting edges,and wear shrouds, ensuring integrity and preventing criticaldamage to base assemblies.
  • Welding & Fabrication: Execute high-strength welding,hardfacing, and crack repairs on loader/excavator buckets, truckbeds, and specialized heavy equipment attachments utilizing stickor wire-feed welding processes.
  • Mobile Equipment Fleet Maintenance: Efficiently service,overhaul, adjust, and test heavy earthmoving machinery andancillary support equipment to preserve peak plant efficiency andfleet reliability.
  • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Conduct thorough visual,physical, and mechanical inspections to rapidly identify andremediate mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
  • Shop & Pit Safety Leadership: Champion a zero-harmculture by safely handling industrial tools, rigging equipment,torches, and welding units, while actively identifying hazardsacross the maintenance shop and open pit areas.
  • Accurate Technical Recordkeeping: Diligently document dailywork orders, parts utilization, diagnostics, and preventivemaintenance metrics within our electronic tracking systems tomaintain full data integrity.

Experience and Skills:
  • Welding & Metallurgy Expertise: Demonstratedproficiency in industrial welding, torch cutting, and hardfacingmethodologies specifically tailored to protect heavy machinerycomponents against extreme abrasive wear.
  • Strict Safety Adherence: Unwavering commitment tooperational safety, including a proactive mindset toward hazardmitigation and strict compliance with Mine Safety and HealthAdministration (MSHA) regulations.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Solid mechanicalunderstanding of heavy-duty diesel engines, powertrains, andhigh-pressure hydraulic systems.
  • Operational Efficiency: Exceptional ability todeliver precise, high-quality work under strict operationaltimelines, keeping critical quarry logistics running smoothly.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • High School Diploma, GED, or an equivalent technical tradecertificate in Diesel Technology or Welding/Fabrication. Proven background in industrialwelding and heavy equipment fabrication.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing heavydiesel trucks or heavy mining/construction equipment (preferred).
  • Valid standard driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Proficiency with stick welding, dual-shield wire welding,oxy-fuel cutting torches, and carbon arc gouging. Robust knowledgeof G.E.T. configurations across major heavy machinery OEMs (CAT,Komatsu, etc.).
  • Technical literacy; ability to seamlessly read, interpret, andimplement instructions from technical service manuals and weld symbols.
Physical and Environmental Demands
  • Work Environment: Fully comfortable working in an outdoorindustrial environment year-round, navigating variable Southernweather conditions.
  • Physical Strength: Ability to perform demanding physicallabor, including lifting up to 50 lbs consistently, climbingladders, and safely navigating rugged, uneven quarry terrain.
  • Schedule & Shift Hours: Standard production shift is 6:00AM - 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Candidates must possess thescheduling flexibility to work some Saturdays as productiondemands dictate.
