Job summary

Gilder Search Group seeks a diesel mechanic for field service across multiple sites. You will perform maintenance and repairs on heavy trucks and heavy machinery, travel to job sites, and provide emergency roadside service as needed.

Candidates must have at least 3 years of diesel experience, a valid driver's license (CDL-B preferred), own hand tools, and strong communication skills. High school diploma required; technical schooling a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance diagnostics and repairs to diesel equipment in mobile/field environment.
  • Perform Emergency Road Services calls.
  • Follow safety policies and Foreman instructions for daily tasks.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, braking, cooling, engine, transmission systems and more.
  • Obtain parts and manage inventory; communicate estimates and approvals.
  • Maintain service truck and complete safety inspections.

Job description

  • Mobile mechanics repair and maintenance construction equipment, specifically dump trucks, offroad trucks, dozers, front-end loaders, and excavators in the field. This position requires constant travel to and from different locations. Must provide own hand tools that are adequate to perform job functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES OF POSITION:
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Follow all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Follow direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance diagnostics, and repairs to equipment, trucks, tractors, dozers, and excavators in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform Emergency Road Services Calls
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment including, but not limited to the following: Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Power steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Use basic hand tools, precision instruments, as well as power tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within or close to most standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for the repairs to be performed.
  • Manage parts inventory and equipment provided on a service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers and/or discuss findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, to include OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Participate and complete all-in company required safety training.
  • Maintain company’s issued service truck, conduct safety checks and pre/post trip inspections.
  • Assumes additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic.
  • Valid Driver’s License required. CDL-B is required.
  • High School Diploma or and equivalent combination of education. Technical school is a plus.
  • Must provide own hand tools that are adequate to perform job functions.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with others.
  • Proficiency in the use of Apple iPhone / mobile devices, navigation of mobile applications and use of email to document repairs and communication.
  • Willingness to work varied schedules and work outdoors / in the elements at stone yards and other locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, multi-task and apply initiative.
  • Positive attitude, Safety conscious, good instincts, and self-motivation
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to balance a variety of tasks.
  • Must be able to provide proper documentation that you have the legal right to work in the United States.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The following motions will be required: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching and squatting - these will occupy most of work day
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. for repetitious lifting while using proper lifting techniques
  • Will be exposed to extremes of heat or cold weather.
