Job summary

Big River Forest Products is seeking a mobile maintenance mechanic to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot sawmill equipment across multiple locations. The role is hands-on, outdoor, and requires working independently to minimize downtime.

You will service conveyors, blades, hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and related machinery, perform preventive maintenance, document work, and communicate with the supervisor. A valid driver's license and the ability to work in all weather are essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of mobile mechanic experience in industrial/manufacturing settings.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex problems independently.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to work weekends and on-call shifts.

Job description

The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems and equipment at various sawmill locations. This role requires hands-on expertise and the ability to work independently in an outdoor environment while ensuring minimal downtime of critical machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a variety of sawmill machinery, including but not limited to conveyors, saw blades, hydraulic systems, motors, and diesel engines.
• Respond to on-site mechanical issues and emergencies in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime.
• Conduct inspections to identify mechanical issues and develop solutions to maintain safe and efficient equipment operation.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrications, and parts replacement.
• Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately diagnose mechanical problems.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly maintained.
• Provide accurate and detailed records of maintenance and repair activities.
• Communicate with the maintenance supervisor and other team members to prioritize work and share updates.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards while on-site.
• Assist in maintaining inventory of parts and tools necessary for repairs and maintenance.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or training in mechanical systems is preferred.
• Proven experience (3+ years) as a mobile mechanic, ideally in an industrial or manufacturing setting, with a focus on heavy machinery and equipment repair.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical problems independently.
• Experience with welding, fabricating, and general machine repairs is a plus.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and in physically demanding environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call shifts if necessary.
