Job summary

J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. is seeking a Mobile Mechanic in Lancaster, MA to perform complex diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on trailers, containers, and power equipment at customer sites or rail yards. You will troubleshoot issues, supervise junior technicians, and ensure work aligns with fleet standards.

The role requires DOT-certified inspections, the ability to work outdoors, and coordination across shifts; a $3,000 sign-on bonus is available for limited time.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include 18 years of age for smaller equipment or 21+ with 3 years of experience in semi-tractor or semi-trailer maintenance.
• DOT-certified FHWA inspections and air brakes are required.
• Able to supply basic tools or participate in toolbox program; able to work outdoors.
• Willingness to work across multiple shifts, nights and weekends when needed.
• Clean motor vehicle record and ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance on tractors and trailers.
• Oversee recall campaigns and sign off on completion.
• Diagnose and repair ABS systems and specialized equipment (refrigeration units, lift gates, frame alignment).
• Mentor new technicians and coordinate shift support as a team lead.
• Follow all safety requirements at customer sites or rail yards.
• Operate service truck and manage parts inventory.
• Complete work orders and document repairs and costs accurately.
• Document vehicle damage to estimate repair costs.
• Use cutting and welding equipment for mid-level repairs on chassis and frames.
• Patch holes in trailer/container panels to keep water-tight seals.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position acts as a subject matter expert for Mobile Technicians. The Sr Mobile Technician is responsible for performing complex maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt trailers, containers, chassis, and power equipment at a customer site or rail yard using a mobile service truck. Technicians must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete all fleet maintenance processes while checking that units meet J. B. Hunt's specifications.

Job Description

$3,000 sign on bonus available for limited time.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform complex diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, tire replacements/flat repairs, brake repairs, electrical diagnostics, and basic structural repairs on tractor and trailer equipment

• Oversee recall campaigns and sign off on completion

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair ABS system and specialized equipment including refrigerated units, lift gates, and frame alignment

• May onboard and mentor new technician trainees; act as team lead to coordinate shift support and tasks

• Follow all safety requirements while at a customer or rail yard

• Professionally operate assigned service truck and according to company requirements; properly attend to service truck parts inventory

• Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures

• Properly document damage to company equipment to estimate the cost of repairs

• Demonstrate proficient use of a cutting torch and welding equipment to perform mid-level repairs on chassis, frames, and other equipment

• Patch holes in trailer/container side panels and roofs ensuring all holes are sealed and water-tight

• Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections sign-off

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• 18 years of age for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000 lbs with 3 years of experience in semi-tractor or semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent experience

• AND Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences

• Possess a clean motor vehicle record per J.B. Hunt guidelines

• Able to supply your own basic tools or purchase through our toolbox purchase program

• Willingness to work outdoors in the elements

• Able to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends, if needed

• DOT-certified in FHWA inspections and air brakes

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 3 years of experience in semi-tractor or semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent experience

• Welding certification

• Forklift certification and experience

• EPA section 608 certification and Refrigeration License

• Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums

• Ability to manage multiple priorities

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• Proficient computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer, including Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

• Ability to use time and resources efficiently and effectively

• Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds)

• Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE)

The expected starting pay range for this position is between $29.18- $43.77

Applicants can be considered for I, II, or Sr. Level Technician depending on verified years of experience and position availability.

Compensation

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
