Job summary

Herc Rentals is seeking a Mobile Master Technician - Mission Critical Projects to support high-priority locations nationwide. This master-level role entails extensive travel (up to 90%) and independent work to keep fleets ready for critical operations.

You'll diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel and gas engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and support equipment, while mentoring local technicians and collaborating with branches to resolve recurring issues.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical school or trade certification preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of experience as a heavy equipment technician, preferably in field service roles.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred.
• Must possess a complete set of personal tools suitable for heavy equipment diagnostics and repair.

Responsibilities

• Travel to designated Herc branches and customer job sites to perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of fleet equipment.
• Prioritize service needs in high-impact areas, including emergency repairs, fleet readiness for large-scale projects, and support for under-resourced branches.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and propane systems.
• Recondition and replace parts to restore equipment to safe operating condition.
• Educate local teams and customers on proper equipment usage and maintenance to prevent future breakdowns.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area at each job site and adhere to all safety protocols both in the shop and on the road.
• Maintain assigned truck housekeeping and parts inventory
• Maintain equipment to company standards of readiness, completing appropriate paperwork for repair tracking and accounting, including applicable DOT driver logs and electronic paperwork
• Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs for each location visited.
• Collaborate with branch managers and regional operations to identify and resolve recurring technical issues.
• Serve as a technical mentor to local technicians when needed.
