Job summary

Friends Center seeks an Emergent Curriculum Literacy Coordinator to advance literacy and emotional well-being for young children. You will collaborate with educators and community partners to design and run a Mobile Library program, expanding access to literacy resources and family engagement across New Haven.

The role emphasizes equitable access to learning, culturally responsive teaching, and strong ties with local schools and universities to support interns and ongoing professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of early literacy practices and child development.
  • Experience building partnerships with libraries and community organizations.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building with diverse communities.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with local organizations, libraries, and service providers to expand wraparound support for families.
  • Design and launch the Mobile Library Program to provide accessible, hands-on literacy experiences.
  • Use the mobile library to share community information and deepen school-community ties.
  • Recruit interns from library science or related programs to support operations.
  • Attend events to build relationships with children, staff, and families.
