Job description

The Partnership for Children of Cumberland County is seeking an Early Literacy and Play Coordinator to lead and expand our Learning Library, a membership-based resource for families and childcare providers. This position combines library operations, early literacy programming, and facilitated play-based learning. The Coordinator will manage the Learning Library collection, provide literacy support to families and educators, and lead Kaleidoscope Play & Learn (KPL) groups to support early childhood development through play.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about early literacy, play-based learning, and family engagement, with experience in early childhood education and familiarity with library operations. The ideal candidate is self-driven – someone who can show clear initiative and creatively problem solve, who can inspire and spread their love for early learning, and who can stay organized, positive and devoted to visitors.

Reports To

The Early Literacy and Play Coordinator will report to the Program Manager (Coaches). If vacant, the VP of Programs will supervise.

Classification and Hiring Range

Regular full-time // Non-exempt // $34,395-$38,694

Responsibilities
  • Takes a collaborative role in curating a collection of early learning resources that supports the efforts of parents, caregivers, and early childhood educators in preparing children for kindergarten.
  • Maintain and organize a collection of books, curriculum kits, educational toys, and learning materials for children ages 0–5.
  • Manage circulation, track check-ins/check-outs, and monitor inventory to ensure timely returns.
  • Ensure materials include culturally responsive, accessible, and multilingual resources.
  • Lead Kaleidoscope Play & Learn (KPL) groups, focusing on child-directed play, coordinated activities, and caregiver learning.
  • Plan and facilitate playdates, literacy events, and other community outreach events promoting early literacy and play.
  • Assist families in selecting developmentally appropriate materials and using educational resources at home to promote early learning and school readiness.
  • Support childcare providers and Pre‑K teachers with accessing curriculum tools and professional development resources.
  • Track library usage data, prepare reports for program evaluation, and recommend improvements.
  • Create themed literacy displays and organize library space to be inviting and functional.
  • Support and deliver training workshops on library resources and early literacy best practices.
  • Inventory and order supplies and materials routinely.

Position Requirements
  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field required; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in early childhood education, early literacy programs, or library/resource center operations.
  • Completion of Kaleidoscope Play & Learn (KPL) training (required within 6 months of hire).
  • Familiarity with child development principles, play-based learning, and family engagement strategies.
  • Knowledge of children’s literature, literacy development, and culturally responsive resources.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing library materials and programming.
  • Ability to facilitate group learning/play sessions for children ages 0–5 and their caregivers.
  • Proficiency with library/resource software (e.g., Microsoft Atrium, Salesforce) and virtual tools (e.g., WebEx).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse families and childcare professionals.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends for events and outreach.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal auto insurance for business travel.
