Job summary

The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy invites applications for an MTU instructor to research, develop, and deliver law enforcement training for basic and advanced officers and investigators. The role includes creating lesson plans, updating materials, and instructing BLE programs to ensure field-aligned delivery.

Candidates must hold BID/SSI certification, SC Class 1 LEO or equivalent, and have road experience; travel and after-hours duties may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and eight (8) years of law enforcement experience or
• Associate degree and six (6) years of law enforcement experience or
• Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of law enforcement experience or
• Master’s degree and two (2) years of law enforcement experience and
• Experience must include two (2) years of road experience and
• Basic Instructor Development (BID) or Specific Skill Instructor (SSI) certification and
• Currently certified S.C. Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) or
• Currently certified LEO in another jurisdiction with full powers of arrest with the ability to become an S.C. LEO within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Develops and updates lesson plans, researches curriculum content, and provides instruction regarding law enforcement practices and procedures for the MTU program.
• Prepares and updates student material. Maintains currency, accuracy, and relevancy of existing programs and training material in assigned areas of responsibility.
• Observes and participates in the instruction of the Basic Law Enforcement (BLE) program to ensure consistency with field instruction.
• Performs law enforcement duties during times of critical incidents, including ride-alongs and assisting other agencies as needed.
