Under the Chief General Counsel, teaches legal classes to Basic Law Enforcement students, conducts legal research on a variety of legal matters, schedules and prepares files for law enforcement certification misconduct hearings, assists writing hearing officer recommendations, and assists with appeals to the Administrative Law Court and Court of Appeals.

  • Provide instruction of legal principles to students in Basic Law Enforcement and Basic Detention classes.
  • Assist with writing hearing officer recommendations, which will be submitted to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Council for review, and draft the final agency decision based on the Law Enforcement Training Council's decision.
  • Draft hearing notices and other documents pertinent to scheduling, conducting, and concluding contested case hearings.
  • Conduct legal research on issues pertaining to the Law Enforcement Training Act, evidentiary issues, and FOIA, among others.
  • Assist with appeals to the ALC and Court of Appeals, including creating the Record on Appeal, drafting briefs, and correspondence to the court.
  • Perform other assignments and projects assigned by the General Counsel.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
  • Juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school
  • Active member of the SC Bar
  • Completion of Rule 403 requirements

  • Must be able to set and maintain deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be able to work independently and as a team while exercising sound judgement.
