Job summary

American Iron & Metal in Cleveland, OH is seeking a Mobile Grader who will safely operate equipment while inspecting, sorting, and grading scrap metal to keep yard operations efficient.

You will identify ferrous and non-ferrous materials, coordinate with scale operators and drivers, maintain records, and support safety and environmental compliance on site.

Qualifications

  • Experience in scrap recycling, metals, construction, or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap grades preferred (training may be provided).
  • Experience operating mobile equipment such as loaders, excavators, forklifts, or material handlers is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately identify materials.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
  • Basic computer or mobile device skills for recording information.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and solve problems efficiently.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and safe equipment operation.
  • Must be willing to work indoors and outdoors, with occasional overtime and weekend hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting, identifying, and grading ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials according to company standards.
  • Operating mobile equipment safely to move, sort, and stockpile materials throughout the yard.
  • Verifying incoming and outgoing materials for quality, contamination, and proper classification.
  • Communicating with scale operators, yard personnel, drivers, and management regarding material grades and load acceptance.
  • Assisting customers and drivers by directing them to the appropriate unloading areas.
  • Maintaining accurate records of graded materials and reporting discrepancies when necessary.
  • Monitoring inventory and assisting with material organization to maximize efficiency and safety.
  • Performing routine equipment inspections and reporting maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Following all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Performing all other related duties as assigned.

Job Description
