What You'll Do

Safety is the most important aspect of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

1. Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Attend safety meetings and participate in safety programs.
2. Operate heavy equipment of various sizes including cranes and loaders.
3. Perform duties such as loading scrap material onto shredder feed conveyor, pushing shred piles, moving materials throughout the yard, and loading trucks and railcars.
4. Perform daily inspections on equipment, reporting any defects or needed repairs to supervisors.
5. Keep grounds clear of debris while maintaining safety standards.
6. Operate small equipment such as forklifts or skid steers if needed.
7. Perform general labor duties including sweeping, shoveling, and general clean-up of areas and equipment throughout the yard.
8. Communicate effectively over radio with teammates for traffic coordination, production, and safety procedures.
9. Willing to cross-train in other positions and assist other employees as needed.
10. Perform other duties as assigned by your manager.

What You'll Need:

• Minimum of 3 years of previous heavy equipment operation experience in manufacturing environments, preferably in scrap metal or construction industries.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, non-stop environment while providing excellent customer service.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles, hazards, safety precautions, and mechanical ability.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to adapt to frequent changes in priorities and complete tasks safely and effectively without constant supervision.
• Dependability and consistency in attendance.
• Flexibility to work overtime, off-hours, weekends, and holidays in an outdoor industrial environment in all weather conditions.
• Bilingual skills are preferred.
• Candidates within 50 miles of the location are preferred.
