Job description

Position: Mobile Diesel Technician II

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
• Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
• Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems and components.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments.
• Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and confirm proper operation.
• Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and determine the best course of action using sound judgment.
• Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on a company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliations.
• Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
• Work effectively with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
• Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
• Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
• Document work performed according to company standards, uploading pictures and details to Repair Orders (RO) via the proprietary TRAIT application.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and all required documentation in a timely manner.
• Work independently and manage one's own daily schedule.
• Maintain a high level of productivity and meet or exceed standard repair times.
• Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
• Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and retrieve purchase order numbers.
• Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with three years of relevant experience, or a higher degree or certification combined with five years of experience.
• At least three years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
• Must possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
• OEM training and certifications are preferred.
• Must complete all company–required training.
• Must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical, or submit a current DOT medical card with more than four months remaining.
• Must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver's license, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Compensation

Hourly pay rate ranges from $32.07 to $48.13 per hour, varying by location and candidate qualifications. Additional compensation may include commission and incentive programs.
