Job summary

Thresholds in Chicago is seeking a Peer Engagement Specialist to join our Mobile Crisis Response Team on the south side. You will respond to mental health crises, perform safety assessments, and connect clients to services while minimizing hospital or police involvement.

You will build rapport using your lived recovery experience, work with a Crisis Worker, and may meet clients at home, work, or in the community. Training and supervision are provided.

Qualifications

• Lived and living experience with personal mental health recovery.
• Passion for mental health advocacy.
• Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to problem-solve.
• Good writing skills.
• Strong time management and organization.
• Willingness to obtain CRSS within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Respond to crisis calls on the crisis hotline and perform safety assessments.
• Determine appropriate response and connect caller to services or meet them in person as needed.
• Build rapport with the person in crisis using your recovery experience.
• Document services provided and offer follow-up based on needs.
• Engage in downtime for professional development and community outreach.
