Job summary

Thresholds is seeking a Peer Engagement Specialist to support people in crisis on the south side of Chicago. You will use your lived recovery experience to respond to crises, perform rapid safety assessments, and connect callers with needed services with a Crisis Worker when necessary.

You will help with in-home or community visits, build rapport, and provide the least restrictive intervention while documenting care. Growth and development opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Must have lived and living experience with personal mental health recovery.
• Passion for mental health advocacy and service to others.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to problem-solve in crisis situations.
• Excellent time management and organization.
• Age 23 or older; valid driver's license preferred with daily vehicle access.

Responsibilities

• Respond to crisis hotline calls and perform safety assessments.
• Connect callers to appropriate services or providers; conduct face-to-face visits as needed with a Crisis Worker.
• Provide least restrictive interventions and build rapport with individuals in crisis.
• Document services provided and follow up with clients as needed.
• Participate in professional development and supervision for trauma-informed care and harm reduction.
