Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) seeks a Community Health Educator to join the Massey COE team. You will promote cancer awareness, screen eligibility, and link communities to screening and follow-up care in Williamsburg and Gloucester.

Join a mobile team delivering in-person and remote education, coordinating events, and extending education on prevention, early detection, and access to services. Hybrid schedule available; pay starts at $20/hr with benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in health or STEM related field or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
• 2+ years in community-based health communications, health promotion or navigation
• Excellent oral communication (public speaking) and interpersonal skills
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Flexibility in communication style
• Knowledge of Williamsburg and/or Gloucester neighborhoods
• Ability to work with diverse community stakeholders
• Self-motivation with minimal supervision
• Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google tools (Sheets, Docs)
• Comfort with using QR codes
• Strong organization and time management skills
• Proficient computer skills
• Commitment to professionalism and civility with diverse populations

Responsibilities

• Co-lead mobile team of credible messengers in Williamsburg and Gloucester, coordinating health promotion events
• Represent Massey at community events, delivering cancer education and increasing awareness
• Assist community members in determining eligibility for cancer screening and access to care
• Address questions to reduce barriers to cancer screening and follow-up care
• Educate about cancer clinical trials and connect to Massey trial team as needed
• Connect community members to local healthcare and social support services
• Document encounters in Massey data systems with confidentiality
• Perform additional duties as assigned
