Job summary

Cook County Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to perform high-complexity testing across multiple areas, including POCT, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Banking, and Hematology Immunology. You will provide guidance, assist with method development, and help ensure compliant, quality laboratory operations.

The role requires a Bachelor's in a scientific field, national MLS/MT/GS certification, and post-certification experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field is required.
• National certification from ASCP/AMT/ABB as MLS/MT/GS with proof at interview.
• One (1) year post certification experience in two laboratory sections is required.
• Must qualify as Medical Technologist by CLIA/Illinois CLIA codes with proof at interview.
• Ability to work rotating shifts including alternating weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-complexity testing in multiple areas (POCT, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Banking, Hematology Immunology).
• Provide technical guidance and training to staff.
• Develop and implement new methods and procedures.
• Maintain quality controls and safety procedures.
• Manage inventory and assist with administrative tasks as needed.
