Job summary

Cook County Health & Hospitals System at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital in Chicago seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to perform high-complexity testing across POCT, chemistry, microbiology, blood banking and hematology.

The role provides technical guidance and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. The position requires a Bachelor's degree, national MLS certification (ASCP/AMT/ABB) and one year post-certification experience in two lab sections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific field required with official transcripts.
• Must qualify as Medical Technologist/MLS per CLIA or state codes.
• National certification (ASCP/AMT/ABB) as MLS/MT/GS with proof at interview.
• One year post-certification experience in two lab sections required.
• Proficient in Word and Excel; able to work rotating shifts including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-complexity testing across multiple lab sections including POCT, chemistry, microbiology, and blood banking.
• Provide technical guidance and training to staff; assist in method development and QA.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and safety procedures.
• Manage quality controls, inventories, and equipment maintenance with vendors as needed.
• Handle administrative tasks and assist with blood drawing and cost analysis.
