Rainmaker is hiring its first dedicated Machine Learning Researcher to establish how ML will be used across the company, identifying valuable problems, building models, and partnering with engineers and domain experts to deploy operational systems.

You will work on forecasting, state estimation, and other high-impact applications using multimodal observations, radar, satellites, and sensors, advancing weather intelligence from research to practice.

Qualifications

• Exceptional ability in machine learning research and engineering, regardless of where developed.
• Strong command of modern machine-learning methods and practical experience in training, evaluating, and debugging models.
• Ability to turn ambiguous problems into measurable targets, tractable experiments, credible baselines, and working prototypes.

Responsibilities

• Assess potential ML projects across Rainmaker and prioritize them by operational value, data readiness, technical tractability, and time to useful results.
• Deliver an operationally useful model or prototype within your first three months.
• Build models for forecasting, nowcasting, retrievals, multimodal atmospheric-state estimation, simulation, and intervention analysis.
• Develop methods for forecasting supercooled liquid water occurrences at scales relevant to cloud-seeding operations.
• Write research-quality software and build prototypes that engineers can productionize.
• Communicate results and limitations clearly to scientists, engineers, operators, and leadership.
