Job summary

WindBorne Systems is seeking a Machine Learning Research Engineer, Applied Research, to translate real-world weather data into robust ML solutions. You will prototype models, analyze diverse datasets, and own projects from concept to validated results.

You will work across research, engineering, and customer-facing activities to tailor WeatherMesh for specific regions and forecasts, communicating findings clearly to partners.

Qualifications

• Strong Python and PyTorch skills with prototype development experience.
• Ability to take loosely defined technical problems from idea to validated results.
• Comfort with imperfect data, evolving requirements, and flexible priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for external partners.

Responsibilities

• Translate customer and program needs into tractable ML questions and experiments.
• Build prototypes, adapt models, and analyze diverse datasets quickly.
• Own end-to-end projects from scoping to delivery of results.
• Customize WeatherMesh for regions, targets, data sources, or constraints.
• Engage with customers and partners to explain models clearly and build trust.
• Present results through demonstrations and technical briefings.
