Job summary

Brigham Young University invites a Senior Data Architect for the School of Medicine to design and oversee trusted educational data architecture. You will build semantic models, data dictionaries, and secure data structures supporting dashboards, accreditation, and student outcomes analysis.

You will partner with IT, Registrar, Curriculum, and other offices to ensure reliable data flows, governance, and QA across analytics products, while enabling AI-ready analytics and self-service insights.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business intelligence, data analytics, data science, or related field with 5 years of IT architecture experience.
  • Experience with data architecture, data modeling, data integration, automation, data-quality checks, or related analytics engineering work.
  • Experience documenting data sources, metric definitions, calculation logic, validation steps, and reporting assumptions.
  • Experience working with sensitive or confidential data and applying appropriate standards for access, use, reporting, and security.
  • Strong working knowledge of data architecture, data modeling, data integration, data transformation, data quality, cloud data platforms, database management, and BI principles.
  • Ability to build trusted, reusable, and well-documented data products that support dashboards, reports, and decision-making.
  • Proficiency with BI/reporting tools and ability to develop dashboards, semantic models, measures, data-quality checks, and refresh processes.
  • Ability to interpret stakeholder needs and translate them into technical requirements, reporting structures, and data products.
  • Document data lineage, metric definitions, calculation logic, assumptions, validation steps, and reporting limitations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for identifying and resolving data-quality, refresh, transformation, calculation, or reporting issues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of FERPA-sensitive educational data and data governance principles.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled analytics tools and responsible-use practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain trusted educational data architecture for analytics and evaluation.
  • Develop semantic models and data structures for dashboards, reports, accreditation tracking, and student outcomes analysis.
  • Establish data dictionaries, metric definitions, and measure logic with clear documentation.
  • Ensure data products are accurate, secure, and de-identified where appropriate.
  • Lead data integration, quality checks, and automated refresh processes.
  • Collaborate with IT, registrar, curriculum, and other offices to support reliable data flows.
  • Provide governance, templates, and guidance for self-service analytics and AI-enabled workflows.
