Jobbeschreibung

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS), a respected nonprofit provider of comprehensive behavioral health and substance use treatment in Kitsap County, Washington, is seeking its next Chief Financial Officer. This role offers a platform for a mission‑driven financial leader to strengthen the organization’s financial foundation and support its continued service to the community.

For over 45 years, KMHS has been a cornerstone of behavioral health in Kitsap County. As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), KMHS provides recovery‑oriented services to approximately 5,800 individuals annually across five locations.

  • Continuum of Care: Services include inpatient/outpatient treatment, crisis stabilization, school‑based programs, and supportive housing for children, youth, and adults.
  • Core Values: Grounded in equity, inclusion, and dignity, KMHS is deeply committed to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA) and trauma‑informed practice.
  • Fiscal Strength: Supported by Medicaid, state/federal contracts, and grants, KMHS maintains a strong financial position with reserves exceeding industry benchmarks.
  • Growth: KMHS is currently undertaking a major campus expansion, including a new Youth Intensive Services Campus to address critical gaps in youth mental health care.
The Role

Reporting to the CEO, the CFO is a fully integrated member of the executive team. This role is not just about numbers; it requires an intentional commitment to understanding clinical workflows to ensure financial decisions strengthen care delivery and program sustainability.

Key Areas of Impact
  • Financial Stewardship: Stabilize and modernize financial systems, improve automation, and ensure transparency in reporting and forecasting.
  • Operational Oversight: Lead the Finance, IT, and Facilitiesfunctions, balancing day‑to‑day oversight with long‑term capital planning and campus development.
  • Strategic Advisory: Act as a key advisor to the Board, helping them navigate risks, capital investments, and evolving funding models (Medicaid, CCBHC, PPS).
  • Mentorship: Serve as a "financial translator" for clinical directors, empowering them to manage budgets and navigate staffing models effectively.
  • Technology & Security: Strengthen the organization’s cybersecurity posture and guide the thoughtful adoption of technology, including AI and cloud‑based systems.
Candidate Profile

The ideal CFO will be a grounded, approachable leader who balances fiscal discipline with a deep commitment to community‑centered care.

Core Qualifications
  • Expertise: Deep nonprofit accounting and financial leadership experience in regulated healthcare settings.
  • Funding Knowledge: Familiarity with Medicaid reimbursement, MCO relationships, and Washington state funding models.
  • Operational Savvy: Experience managing facilities infrastructure and large‑scale capital projects.
  • Relational Style: High emotional intelligence with the ability to build trust and foster transparency across all levels of the organization.
  • Engagement: A visible, hands‑on leader present on‑site full‑time (relocation to Kitsap County required if not local).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting required; CPA or Master’s degree strongly preferred.
