Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Chicago is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead design teams on mission-critical data center projects and other facilities. You will guide projects from concept through construction, ensuring alignment with budgets, schedules, and client requirements.

The role emphasizes QA/QC, mentoring staff, and coordination across disciplines. A PE license is preferred; ABET-accredited degree is required; travel up to 25% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program with 7 years experience (EPC project experience preferred)
• Bachelor Degree in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program with FE passed and 7 years experience (EPC project experience preferred)
• Master Degree in Structural Engineering and 6 years experience (EPC project experience preferred)
• Expert knowledge in structural design codes (IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE7) and strong computer skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work to team members
• Travel ability and PE license preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design from conceptual phase through design completion
• Prepare structural equipment specifications and data sheets
• Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers and other disciplines
• Manage project schedule, scope, budget and staffing
• Quality review production drawings and construction administration
• Lead field inspections and provide technical reports for clients
• Develop cost proposals and project budgets
• Mentor less experienced engineers and ensure QA/QC adherence
• Ensure compliance with safety policies
