Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Dallas expects an experienced Architect to lead high-level design for mission-critical data center projects, coordinating across teams and managing budgets and schedules.

You will review production drawings, mentor staff, and ensure compliance with codes and standards while delivering tailored design solutions for healthcare, airports, education, and government facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Architecture from an NAAB accredited program; 8 years related experience required.
  • Master Degree in Architecture from an NAAB accredited program; 7 years related experience required.
  • Minimum eight years of architectural experience preferred.
  • Registered architect preferred.
  • Portfolio demonstrating design and graphic presentation skills is preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of standard architectural concepts, building codes, ADA standards, exterior envelope design, detailing, and specification writing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking.
  • Expert software and computer skills, including BIM (Revit), Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D rendering software.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, and organization.
  • Experience in leading design teams for large, complex projects, delegating tasks, and guiding internal and client groups toward successful design outcomes.
  • Ability to conduct detailed quality reviews of architectural documents.
  • Experience with construction phase activities, including site visits, shop drawing review, and correspondence with contractors and client.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Registered Architect Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Develop, modify, and review production drawings for healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, and governmental/military facilities.
  • Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget and staffing; manage change orders.
  • Apply expert knowledge of architectural concepts, codes, and procedures; compile studies and write specifications.
  • Quality review production drawings and ensure design compliance.
  • Quality review construction administration including field coordination to resolve design-related issues.
  • Lead field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations for clients.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Build relationships with clients and contractors; identify and manage new business opportunities.
  • Participate sales and marketing efforts and lead key pursuits.
  • Lead development of cost proposals and qualification statements.
  • Prepare, present and manage project budgets and cost estimates; report project performance.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the architectural practice; mentor staff.
  • Ensure QA/QC process adherence and compliance with safety policies.
  • Communicate effectively with other architectural teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
