Job summary

Emmanuel Lutheran Church in High Point, North Carolina, seeks a part-time Minister of Music (20 hours/week) to direct choirs and provide piano/organ accompaniment for worship. The role supports hospitality, partnership, and community through meaningful worship.

The ideal candidate will direct choral and handbell ensembles, collaborate with the pastor and worship teams, and nurture musical gifts within the congregation. Your ministry includes special services and ongoing learning opportunities.

Qualifications

• Proficient piano and/or organ playing skills.
• Experience directing choirs/ensembles, preferably in worship.
• Basic understanding of Lutheran theology and liturgical worship.
• A spirit of creativity and openness to new approaches in worship, balanced with respect for liturgical tradition.

Responsibilities

• Direct Emmanuel's choirs and ensembles and accompany on piano/organ for worship services.
• Provide leadership for funerals, weddings, seasonal services, and Holy Week, with advance coverage as needed.
• Collaborate with Senior Pastor and Worshiping Ministry team to select hymns, anthems, preludes, postludes, and special music.
• Identify and nurture members' musical gifts and seek wider sharing of the music ministry.
• Coordinate substitute musicians, welcome guest musicians, and help maintain instruments.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church, a welcoming and inclusive congregation in High Point, North Carolina, is seeking a Minister of Music. This is a part-time, 20-hour-per-week position for a musician equally at home directing a choir and playing piano and/or organ for worship, who wants to help shape meaningful worship for a congregation deeply committed to hospitality, partnership, and community.

What You'll Do

• Direct Emmanuel's choirs (currently choral and handbell) and ensembles and provide accompaniment on piano and/or organ for all regular worship services.
• Ensure musical leadership is provided for special or short-notice services, such as funerals, weddings, seasonal midweek services, and Holy Week, whether led personally or through advance coverage.
• Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and Worshiping Ministry team to select hymns, anthems, preludes, postludes, and special music.
• Identify and nurture our members' musical gifts and seek ways to share our music ministry with the wider community.
• Coordinate substitute musicians as needed, welcome guest and special musicians who enrich our worship life, and help maintain our musical instruments.

Details

• Part-time, averaging 20 hours per week
• Compensation: $30,000 - $36,000 annually
• Funeral and wedding services compensated separately.
• 12 paid Sundays off per year, scheduled in advance.
• Funds available for continuing education and enrichment.
