Job summary

Cedar Grove United Methodist Church seeks a part-time Music Minister to provide piano leadership for worship and support the musical life of our congregation. The Music Minister will work closely with the pastor and choir to help create meaningful, joyful, and Christ-centered worship through music.

This role involves Sunday worship, weekly choir rehearsals, and additional services. The position pays $25 per hour (about $125 per week) and reports to the Pastor with oversight from the SPRC.

Qualifications

• Strong piano skills accompanying congregational and choral singing.

Responsibilities

• Accompany the congregation and choir on piano and/or organ during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.
• Lead the weekly choir rehearsal and help select and prepare anthems and other musical offerings for worship.
• Provide musical leadership for special worship services, including Christmas Eve, Easter, Ash Wednesday, and other services as needed.
• Work with the pastor to select hymns, anthems, and other music that support the worship theme and liturgy.
• Help identify and recommend new music and work within the church’s music budget.
• Coordinate with the pastor and Trustees regarding regular piano maintenance.

Hours & Compensation

• 5 hours per week: 2 hours — Sunday worship and preparation; 1 hour — Weekly choir rehearsal; and 2 hours — Individual preparation and music planning
• $25 per hour
• Approximately $125 per week

Primary Responsibilities

• Accompany the congregation and choir on piano and/or organ during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.
• Lead the weekly choir rehearsal and help select and prepare anthems and other musical offerings for worship.
• Provide musical leadership for special worship services, including Christmas Eve, Easter, Ash Wednesday, and other services as needed.
• Work with the pastor to select hymns, anthems, and other music that support the worship theme and liturgy.
• Help identify and recommend new music and work within the church’s music budget.
• Coordinate with the pastor and Trustees regarding regular piano maintenance.

Additional Opportunities

The Music Minister may be available to provide music for weddings and funerals. These services are separate from the regular position and are compensated independently.

Supervision

The Music Minister reports to the Pastor and is overseen by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC). The SPRC will conduct an annual review of the position, including compensation.
