The Falkirk Mining Company in Underwood, IA is offering an Intern (Trainee) position for engineering/surveying students. The 3‑ or 8‑month programs run May 2027 through December 2027, with an hourly starting range of $25.88–$29.11.

The role mixes office tasks with field surveying, safety compliance, and project support in a real mine environment. Eligibility: enrolled in an accredited program with at least 1 year of college completed, a valid driver’s license, and steel‑toed shoes.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in accredited engineering/surveying program and in good academic standing.
• Completed at least 1 year of college in the associated field of study and intents on completing the degree.
• Applicants need to have a valid driver's license
• Steel-toed Shoes

Responsibilities

• Surveying - Assist the survey crew with office computations and fieldwork utilizing GPS, drones, robotic total station, or a remote-controlled boat.
• Computer - Work with various forms of engineering/surveying data to produce reports or studies.
• Permitting - Assist in the preparation of mining maps and permits. Design - Assist in engineering projects with field oversite and/or design of mine roads, ponds, and special projects.
• Sampling - Work on the groundwater, soil sampling, and geological programs.
• MSHA law/safety/environmental - Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations.
