Job summary

South Florida State College is seeking a Coordinator for Mine Safety and Health Training to develop, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate MSHA safety programs in collaboration with mining industry partners.

The role requires a strong background in MSHA Part 45/48b training, certification as an MSHA Instructor Trainer, and proven experience coordinating adult training and emergency response exercises.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Five years minimum verifiable mining/safety/training experience.
• Certified MSHA Instructor Trainer (Part 48b) in good standing.
• MSHA Instructor certification in good standing.
• Valid Florida driver's license or travel ability.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience coordinating emergency response training or safety competitions preferred.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects and events.

Responsibilities

• Develops and delivers MSHA training programs under Part 45/48b, including New Miner and Annual Refresher.
• Acts as SME on Part 46 and Part 48B training requirements.
• Maintains MSHA Form 5000-23 and compliance documentation.
• Performs compliance safety audits and recommends corrective actions.
• Prepares MSHA State Grants program reports and closeout documents.
• Establishes relationships with mining companies and MSHA leadership; promotes college training programs.
• Represents SFSC at MSHA events and conferences.
• Schedules courses, facilities, equipment, and backup training consultants.
• Monitors budgets and enrollment data; coordinates registration and customer service.
• Leads mine rescue competitions and emergency response exercises.
