Qualifications

  • Participate in mine planning reviews and offer engineering recommendations for development and infrastructure.

Job Summary

The project engineer position at Weeks Island is responsible for applying engineering knowledge to project planning and execution. This includes the preparation of capital and expense projects, the supervision of contractors and/or internal labor, and working with our maintenance team for the successful integration of new assets being commissioned. In addition to projects the project engineer will assist the engineering team with other responsibilities such as surveying support, updating mine maps and daily production records/meetings.

Must have a Mine Project Engineer Degree and able to work independently with little instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support short-term, mid-range, and life-of-mine planning activities to optimize mine development, production, and resource utilization.
  • Assist with resource and reserve evaluation activities by providing technical analysis, mine planning support, and coordination with geological data.
  • Develop and maintain mine designs, layouts, schedules, and production plans to support safe and efficient mining operations.
  • Provide technical support for ventilation planning, ground control programs, and underground infrastructure development.
  • Support surveying activities, mine mapping updates, and production reporting to maintain accurate technical records.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance teams to identify opportunities for productivity improvements, cost reductions, and operational efficiencies.
  • Participate in mine planning reviews and provide engineering recommendations related to mine development, infrastructure, and operational challenges.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of underground mining experience.
  • Knowledge of mine planning principles, underground mining methods, and project management practices.
  • Experience with short-term, mid-range, and life-of-mine planning.
  • Experience supporting resource and reserve evaluation activities.
  • Experience with mine planning, mine design, ventilation, scheduling, and surveying.
  • Knowledge of ventilation systems, ground control practices, and underground infrastructure planning.
  • Ability to apply mining engineering concepts and principles to operational and project-related challenges.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute engineering assignments from conception through completion.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to supervise contractors and coordinate project activities.
  • Ability to work in an underground mining environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Preferred
  • Experience with underground drill and blast operations and engineering.
  • Front-line operational supervision or leadership experience in an underground mining environment.
  • Experience with mine planning software, scheduling platforms, and mine design applications.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, mine development projects, and contractor management.
  • Familiarity with mine ventilation modeling, ground control monitoring, and rock mechanics programs.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) designation or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience working in salt, hard rock, or other underground mining operations.

Field work will include underground and surface industrial environment where potential dust, high temperatures, and other industrial and mine related hazards may be encountered. High work will be needed for measurement and monitoring activities.
