Job summary

General Motors in Michigan is seeking qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (Millwright) to work with minimal supervision on industrial machinery, conveyors, robots, and automation systems. The role requires reading blueprints, performing maintenance and adjustments, and operating CNC tools.

Candidates must have an Apprenticeship Certificate or six years of mechanical trade experience, be eligible to work in the United States, and be willing to shift as needed including overtime.

Qualifications

• Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate in Mechanical trade or 6 years documented experience
• Must pass GM hiring process including comprehensive assessments, drug testing, and a background check
• At least 18 years of age
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Willing to work flexible shifts including overtime, weekends, and holidays
• GM does not provide immigration sponsorship for this role
• Current GM employees under a collective bargaining agreement should contact local HR/LR
• Position may be Journeyperson or Journeyperson In Training; pay determined by credentials and interview results

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety procedures per OSHA and company policies
• Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical/hydraulic components on industrial machinery
• Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems
• Use hand or power tools to install pipes, valves, and fittings
• Read and interpret blueprints for conveyors, robots, and automation
• Operate forklifts and cranes as needed
• Rig equipment Loading and staging for lifts
• Set up and operate CNC machines to shape parts
• Fabricate tools and fixtures per specs
• Plan operation sequences from blueprints or sketches
• Verify finished parts with calipers, micrometers, and gauges
