Job summary

General Motors is seeking a qualified Mechanical Journeyperson (Millwright) to perform maintenance on industrial machinery and read blueprints for automation systems onsite.

The role requires an apprenticeship or 6 years in a mechanical trade, ability to pass GM assessments, and willingness to work flexible shifts including overtime. U.S. work eligibility is required and sponsorship is not provided.

Qualifications

• U.S. Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate in Mechanical trade (millwright, pipefitter, toolmaker, machine repair) or six (6) years of documented experience in a Mechanical trade
• Must be able to satisfactorily complete the General Motors hiring process requirements which include comprehensive assessments, hair drug testing, and a background check
• At least 18 years of age; eligible to work in the United States; willing to work flexible shift hours including day, afternoon, or night shifts with overtime on those shifts
• GM does not provide immigration sponsorship for this role; do not apply if sponsorship is needed

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures
• Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery
• Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems
• Use hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, bending, and installing pipes and fittings
• Read and interpret blueprints for conveyors, robots, and automation
• Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, lifts, and cranes
• Determine loading requirements to rig equipment and material for lifting
• Set up CNC machines to cut, bore, or shape parts to specifications
• Fabricate tools and jigs to exact specifications
• Plan sequences of operations from blueprints
• Verify finished dimensions using calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators
