Job summary

Lee Industrial Contracting is seeking a skilled Rigging and Crane Technician to join our Michigan-based team. You will transport and install machinery, read blueprints, and work with cranes, forklifts, and other equipment on industrial sites.

Responsibilities include precision measurement with micrometers, aligning machinery, leading apprentices on smaller projects, maintaining a clean site, and strict adherence to safety standards. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude with common hand tools (tape measure, etc.)
• Basic math and geometry knowledge
• Rigger 1 certified and qualified
• Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Transport and locate machines and equipment to the desired location using forklifts, hoists, winches, cranes and other equipment
• Install, assemble, and, when necessary, dismantle machinery, conveyor systems, pulleys, clutches, gear boxes, hydraulics and pneumatics
• Use micrometers and other precision measuring devices to achieve extreme tolerances
• Follow foreman instructions to complete tasks efficiently
• Lead an apprentice on smaller projects
• Read and understand design layouts and blueprints
• Keep the job site clean and organized
• Handle loading/unloading of materials, tools, and equipment
• Ensure attention to detail and safety standards
• Fuel and wash department vehicles

Responsibilities

• Transport and locate machines and equipment to the desired location according to floor plans, or as directed using forklifts, hoists, winches, cranes and other equipment.
• Responsible for installing, assembling, and, when necessary, dismantling machinery, conveyor systems, pulleys, mechanical clutches, gear boxes, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
• Use micrometers and other precision measuring devices to achieve the extreme tolerances required
• Follow instructions from foreman and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently
• Ability to lead an apprentice on smaller projects
• Support and work in tandem with team members on various small/large projects
• Read and understand design layouts and blueprints
• Keep the job site clean and well-organized
• Handle the loading and unloading of materials, tools, and equipment
• Ensure attention to detail and follow safety standards
• Fuel and wash department vehicles

Requirements

• Mechanically inclined with common hand tools (tape measure, etc.)
• Basic math and geometry knowledge
• Rigger 1 certified and qualified
• Align equipment or machinery
• Stick (Arc) welding
• Forming & grouting machine bases
• Ability to work effectively with all personality types
• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
• Self-directed and can work independently

Rigging Requirements

• Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height.
• Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment Utilize and understand the constraints of chains, synthetic, metal mesh, and wire rope slings.
• Use & recognize rigging hardware including hooks, shackles, wire rope clips, clamps, eye bolts, softeners and tag lines
• Identifies common load configurations & positioning
• Rigger 1 training – trains on above

Lift Director Requirements (Preferred)

• Identify the various roles and responsibilities associated with directing a lift, planning a lift, and executing a lift.
• Discuss proper LHE operating practices as they related to standard and critical load handling activities.
• Explain the requirements for signaling and communication during load handling activities.
• Review applicable manufacturer requirements, site requirements, Federal regulations, and applicable standards for rigging equipment.
• Discuss the procedures for procuring material handling equipment.
• Distinguish proper vs. improper crane and rigging practices.
• Select appropriate rigging gear based upon capacity, compatibility, compliance, and load control.
• Discuss items to be considered before, during, and after a load handling activity.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height.
• Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
• Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds regularly/occasional
• Must be able to respond quickly to auditory alarms, visual signals, or other effective means to communicate hazards
• Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
• Must be able to work in cold/hot environments.
• Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
