Job summary

Lee Contracting is seeking a qualified individual for a role focused on rigging and lifting activities in Holly, Michigan. You will ensure safety compliance, coordinate project tasks, and manage the effective use of various equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all initial safety and hazard assessments (JHA's, pre-task plans and equipment inspections) required by the company and our customers are completed before work begins
  • Communicate effectively with project team members if there’s a scope of work change or safety concerns to execute the project
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in all rigging and lifting activities, to ensure compliance with safety procedures and method statements. Familiar with heavy lift plans and procedures.
  • Move loads and equipment according to rigging plan with appropriate rigging equipment
  • Direct and control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, to ensure safety of workers and materials
  • Assist with coordination of materials, labor, and equipment
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow procedures. Competent in reading and understanding specifications, drawings, and all other discipline related project and engineering documentation. Keeps records of all work completed.
Requirements
  • Identify equipment needed including types of cranes, forklifts, gantries, and determining load capacity from equipment load chart
  • Calculate additions and deductions involved in lifting operations
  • Consult if lift plan isn’t adequate due to job/machine layout and identify alternative lift plan options
  • Rigger 2 certified & qualified
  • Lock-out tag-out
  • Valid Chauffeurs license
  • Ability to work effectively with all personality types
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Self-directed and can work independently
Preferred Requirements
  • Stick (Arc) welding
  • CDL-A License/ DOT Med card

  • Forklift Operation – Material handling up to 140,000#

  • Telehandler
  • Overhead crane certified & qualified (NCCER/NCCCO)
  • Mobile crane certified & qualified (NCCER/NCCCO)
  • Gantry
  • Mobile gantry
  • Optical & digital layout equipment (Preferred)
  • Trailer loading and securing of material
Lift Director Requirements - Qualified
  • Identify the various roles and responsibilities associated with directing a lift, planning a lift, and executing a lift.
  • Discuss proper LHE operating practices as they related to standard and critical load handling activities.
  • Explain the requirements for signaling and communication during load handling activities.
  • Review applicable manufacturer requirements, site requirements, Federal regulations, and applicable standards for rigging equipment.
  • Discuss the procedures for procuring material handling equipment.
  • Distinguish proper vs. improper crane and rigging practices.
  • Select appropriate rigging gear based upon capacity, compatibility, compliance, and load control.
  • Discuss items to be considered before, during, and after a load handling activity.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height.
  • Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally
  • Must be able to respond quickly to auditory alarms, visual signals, or other effective means to communicate hazards
  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work in cold/hot environments.
  • Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
