Job summary

Stimson Lumber Company in Tillamook, Oregon seeks an experienced Millwright to keep mill equipment running safely, reliably, and efficiently. You will troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, perform preventive maintenance, and work with electricians to ensure continuous operation of conveyors, saws, kilns, and debarkers.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose mechanical issues quickly and accurately.
• Team player with excellent communication; able to mentor less experienced millwrights; self-motivated and able to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems; perform preventive maintenance on mill machinery including conveyors, saws, kilns, and debarkers; diagnose issues and implement corrective actions.
• Technical Expertise: read and interpret mechanical drawings/blueprints; weld and fabricate to repair/modify components; troubleshoot hydraulic/pneumatic systems; coordinate with electricians on electrical systems.

Job Details

Location: Tillamook Mill, Tillamook, OR 97141

Pay: $44.00-$48.00 per hour depending on experience; swing shift differential $1.50 per hour; graveyard shift differential $2.00 per hour; overtime paid at time and a half; $2,500+ referral bonuses; profit sharing up to 3%.

Schedule: Swing Shift, Wednesday – Saturday, 3:30 am – 2:00 am.

What You'll Do

As a Millwright, you are responsible for ensuring mill equipment runs safely, reliably, and efficiently. Your day‑to‑day work includes:

• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems; perform preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life; maintain, install, repair, improve, and troubleshoot mill machinery including conveyor systems, saws, kilns, and de‑barkers; diagnose machine performance issues and implement corrective solutions.
• Technical Expertise: read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints; perform welding and fabrication to repair and modify equipment components; maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems; work alongside electricians on electrical systems and components; evaluate and test equipment efficiency, recommending improvements.
• Documentation & Communication: maintain accurate maintenance documentation, parts inventory, and closing reports; proactively communicate with all departments to ensure proper operation of equipment; regularly educate maintenance and operations teams on evolving programs.
• Continuous Improvement: continuously evaluate and analyze quality, safety, and production processes; identify and suggest new approaches or best practices to drive improvement; partner with machine operators to improve efficiency and reliability; implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs.
• Safety & Compliance: follow and model strict safety protocols and regulatory compliance standards; make safety in the workplace the number one priority; work cross‑functionally with production and leadership teams to keep the mill operating safely.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum five years of industrial equipment maintenance experience; sawmill operations experience preferred.
• Proficient in mechanical systems: conveyor systems, saws, kilns, de‑barkers; skilled in welding and fabrication for equipment repair and modification; able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints; knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance and troubleshooting; basic understanding of electrical systems and electrical safety practices.
• Strong problem‑solving skills to diagnose mechanical issues quickly and accurately.
• Team player with excellent communication skills (verbal and written); highly self‑motivated and able to work independently; collaborative approach with willingness to mentor less experienced millwrights.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment; flexibility to work non‑standard hours or weekends when urgent needs arise; strict adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
• Valid driver’s license.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

• Lift up to fifty plus pounds, climb stairs and ladders, and move equipment as needed.
• Work safely around moving mechanical systems; comfortable in loud conditions with airborne sawdust; comfortable working in indoor and outdoor temperatures.
• Flexibility to work non‑standard hours or weekends when urgent maintenance needs arise.
