Job summary

Stimson Lumber Company in St. Maries, ID seeks an experienced maintenance professional to oversee daily shift upkeep of mill machinery and preventative programs. The role focuses on reliability, safety, and continuous improvement across conveyors, kilns, and debarker systems.

You will read blueprints, perform welding and fabrication, and collaborate with operators to minimize downtime while meeting production targets and safety standards. Excellent problem-solving is essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of industrial equipment maintenance experience.
  • Experience with sawmill equipment including conveyors, kilns, and debarkers.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong problem-solving and downtime minimization skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and operate in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously evaluate and analyze quality, safety and production processes.
  • Provide daily shift maintenance and troubleshooting for machine centers and equipment.
  • Implement preventative maintenance and troubleshooting programs for machinery and equipment.
  • Provide thorough maintenance reporting, documentation, inventory of parts, and closing records.
  • Proactively communicate with all departments to ensure proper operation and maintenance of systems and equipment.
  • Serve as a partner to machine operators to help improve machine efficiency.
  • Model, implement and comply with all company work and safety rules and related industry regulations.
  • Regularly educate the maintenance and operations organizations on maintenance and safety programs as they evolve.
  • Identify and suggest new approaches or best known methods to foster a continuous improvement mentality.
  • Evaluate and test equipment efficiency and effectiveness and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Maintain, install, repair, improve and troubleshoot all systems, equipment and machinery in the mill.

Job Details

Location: St. Maries Mill – St. Maries, ID 83861

Position Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $38.00 – $44.00 per hour

Shift: Swing Shift (3:00p.m.–1:30a.m.)

Schedule: Eligible for overtime at time and a half. Shift differential $1.50 per hour.

Benefits: Commute Pay $350/month ($2.00 per hour). Healthcare 80% premium coverage. 401(k) 100% match on first 6% of pay. Profit sharing up to 3% of pay. Bonus: discretionary. Paid Time Off: 9 holidays, 2 weeks vacation, sick leave up to 3 days. Employee referral $2,500–$5,000. Other: Wellness program, tuition reimbursement, apprenticeships, career development, access to company land.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years industrial equipment maintenance experience; sawmill operations preferred.
  • Proficient in mechanical systems and components commonly found in sawmills, such as conveyor systems, saws, kilns, and de‑barkers.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
  • Skilled in welding and fabrication techniques for repairing and modifying equipment components.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills to identify and diagnose mechanical issues quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems commonly used in sawmill machinery.
  • Ability to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot issues related to these systems.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and components associated with sawmill equipment; knowledge of electrical safety practices and ability to work with electricians.
  • Experience in implementing preventive maintenance programs to ensure longevity and reliability of machinery.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols and procedures; knowledge of and compliance with relevant safety regulations in the sawmill industry.
  • Effective communication with team members, supervisors, and other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and address concerns.
  • Collaborative approach; willingness to mentor less experienced millwrights or apprentices.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast‑paced environment; flexibility to work during non‑standard hours or weekends for urgent maintenance needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team player and highly self‑motivated individual.
  • Safety orientation; make safety the highest priority.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb stairs and move equipment as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license.
