Job summary

Stimson Lumber Company is seeking a skilled Millwright to maintain and repair mill equipment at Forest Grove facility near Gaston, Oregon. You will troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, perform preventive maintenance, and support continuous improvement initiatives across production lines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of industrial equipment maintenance experience (sawmill operations preferred).
  • Proficient in mechanical systems: conveyor systems, saws, kilns, de-barkers.
  • Skilled in welding and fabrication for repair and modification of equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and electrical safety practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose mechanical issues quickly and accurately.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills; capable of mentoring others.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure mill equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Maintain, install, repair, improve, and troubleshoot mill machinery including conveyors, saws, kilns, and debarkers.
  • Diagnose machine performance issues and implement corrective solutions.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
  • Perform welding and fabrication to repair and modify components.
  • Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems and work with electricians on electrical components.
  • Evaluate and test equipment efficiency, recommending improvements.
  • Maintain maintenance documentation, parts inventory, and closing reports.
  • Proactively communicate with departments to ensure proper operation of equipment.
  • Educate maintenance and operations teams on evolving programs.
  • Continuously evaluate quality, safety, and production processes.
  • Identify and suggest new approaches or best practices to drive improvement.
  • Partner with operators to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs.
  • Follow strict safety protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with production and leadership to keep the mill operating safely.

Location: Forest Grove Mill and Resource Office - Gaston, OR 97119

Position Type: Full Time

Salary: $40.00 - $44.00 per hour (plus shift differentials)

Shift: Any shift (day, swing, graveyard)

What You’ll Earn
  • $44.00–$48.00 per hour depending on experience
  • $1.50 per hour swing shift differential
  • $2.00 per hour graveyard shift differential
  • Overtime paid at time‑and‑a‑half

What You’ll Do

Required Qualifications

  • Skilled in welding and fabrication for equipment repair and modification
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and electrical safety practices
  • Strong problem‑solving skills to diagnose mechanical issues quickly and accurately
  • Team player with excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Highly self‑motivated and able to work independently
  • Willingness to mentor less experienced millwrights
  • Adaptability to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Flexibility to work non‑standard hours or weekends when urgent needs arise
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols and procedures
Other Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs., climb stairs and ladders, and move equipment as needed
  • Comfortable working in loud conditions with airborne sawdust
  • Comfortable working in indoor and outdoor temperatures
